The Stormbirds web site was originally created with one purpose:  to pay tribute to the exceptional airmen who brought America to the forefront of the Jet Age.  The experiences of four surviving pilots are presented here in an account drawn from their own words.

Although the site deals primarily with the jet recovery effort, it should be noted that each of these men was a veteran Thunderbolt fighter pilot before this operation.  Between them, more than 330 combat missions in the P-47 are represented, from Naples to Normandy.  That they even lived to fly captured jets is in itself a testimony to their expertise.

It is an honor to tell their story in the pages that follow.
